Sam Friedman, MD


Dr. Friedman joined Athens Pulmonary in 2026. Originally from Boston, he traveled south to complete his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Friedman attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine, where he also met his wife (a UGA graduate and fellow physician). He moved to Charleston, SC for internal medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also stayed for pulmonary & critical Care fellowship. He worked as a pulmonologist in Louisville, KY before finding a home in Athens. Dr. Friedman is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. He also completed dedicated training in pulmonary vascular diseases. His clinical interests include pulmonary hypertension, critical care, palliative care, and medical education. Outside of work he loves to golf, explore different restaurants, travel with his wife, and he maintains allegiance to Boston sports teams.
